This afternoon I sat down, or rather, I “hung out” with Toba Singer, ballet writer and critic to discuss her latest book, “Fernando Alonso: The Father of Cuban Ballet”
Toba was very fortunate to have met Fernando Alonso and interview him about his ballet career as a dancer, but most importantly, as a teacher and co-founder of the Cuban School of Ballet, from which great ballet dancers have emerged, such as Carlos Acosta, Jose Manuel Carreño, Viengsay Valdes, just to name a few.

I asked Toba how the idea to write about Fernando had come to her, what she learned about Alonso, the teacher and the man. And finally what was her take-away from the entire process.
Watch the video below and find out what she had to say about this amazing icon, that was Fernando Alonso in the world of ballet.
