Ballet for Boys

Ballet for boys

Ballet for boys taking class.

In this class no girls are allowed. Is ballet for boys too? Now, more than ever! Just take a look at what male ballet dancers are doing today in Kings of the Dance and Lost in Motion.

Ballet for boys is getting a boost on both sides of the Atlantic: in the United States with the Petit Oasis Foundation and in the UK, with the Boys Only! programme.

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), in partnership with Dance Base, presents their Boys Only! weekend workshop for boys between the ages of 8 and 18 years, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April 2012.

Boys Only! is reaching out to the community, giving young men the opportunity to demonstrate their potential and to dance with and learn from their male peers and leading dance artists. Quality teaching and insights into the dance profession also make this a unique experience.

Boys Only! originated in 2005 when the RAD raised £50,000 at a Billy Elliot -The Musical gala and launched the programme with the aim of widening participation in dance through open access events specifically targeting young men with little or no dance experience. It is now a national programme working in collaboration with a range of regional partners delivering ballet from a fresh perspective in conjunction with other dance styles.

In California, Joan Bayley and Gigi Hooghkirk run the Petiti Oasis Foundation for boys.

Petit Oasis Foundation is a private non-profit organization offering scholarships to boys living in the vicinity of Los Angeles and Orange County between the ages of 8 and 18 years old who strive to be professional ballet dancers.

The Foundation helps to show boys who dance that they are not alone. Join Dance Channel TV at the auditions as Suzanne Jolie interviews a young boy.

Thanks to DanceChannelTV Channel on YouTube and the Petit Oasis Foundation.

As you can see in the video, ballet for boys cannot be ignored. More and more boys choose ballet as a career path. Having programs like Boys Only! and the Petit Oasis Foundation is giving boys a chance to follow their dreams and pursue their passion for dancing ballet professionally.
